I have been trying to blog about this Boutique of Molly dress for an absolute age, I can’t even begin to tell you how frustrating photographing this dress has been! Every single photo out of the 100+ that had been taken by myself, my dad and my boyfriend have been unusable. From dodgy facial expressions to horrific blurs, I didn’t manage to get a single good photo of myself in this dress. FINALLY though, after my third attempt at a photo shoot, I have some pictures of this gorgeous dress that are actually worth posting. I have to say, it has been worth the effort.
I was approached by Boutique of Molly and asked if I would be interested in reviewing some of their items. I had a browse of the website and as soon as I spotted the Dahlia dress, my heart skipped a beat and I had to accept their offer.
The dress arrived promptly in a bright pink bag, and from the moment I took it out of the packaging I fell in love. The digital print flowers are gorgeous, and the pink mesh at the hem is a lovely eye-catching feature. The colours scream summer and the skater style of the dress is incredibly flattering on all figures, nipping in your waist wonderfully thanks to the wide waistband. The fabric is a slightly stretchy scuba fabric, making the dress really comfortable. The skirt is quite heavy and I definitely wouldn’t call this dress floaty, but I like this because it means the skirt doesn’t fly up at the slightest hint of a breeze and expose my knickers to the world. I chose my usual size 12 and it is a teeeeny bit too big; it isn’t particularly noticeable and it doesn’t gape, but the bodice certainly doesn’t cling to me as much as I would expect a scuba dress to. If you’re between sizes I think you could get away with ordering the smaller size.
Don’t let this put you off, but you can’t easily wear a bra with this dress. The thin straps mean that a strapless bra is your only option, and since the majority of strapless bras are balconettes, the centre of the bra will be visible at the bottom of the deep V neckline. Therefore, you’re going to have to choose between two options: braless, or boob tape. It’s certainly not a deal breaker at all, but it’s definitely something to be aware of if you’re ordering this dress for an event – don’t forget to pick up some body tape too!
Since it was pretty cold on the day I took these photos I wore the dress with black tights, a cardigan and ankle boots, but previously I’ve gone bare-legged and worn it with gold sandals and a sparkly gold box clutch. That’s the best thing about this dress; the bright colours make it really versatile so you can have a lot of fun with coordinating and contrasting accessories. This dress would look stunning with pink accessories, or if you want all focus to be on the flowers then nude would be a great option too.
I would definitely order from Boutique of Molly again as I was incredibly impressed by the service, the quality of the dress and the friendliness of the staff when I spoke to them via email and Twitter. I currently have my eye on the Lila, which is the same shape as the Dahlia but in a fabulously nautical navy and white colourway. Imagine it with a thin red belt, red heels and a matching red bag! *swoon*
