Introducing The Blogger Bake Off!

Blogger Bake Off

You may have noticed that it’s been a little quiet over here on Poppy alla Norma recently, but now I can finally reveal what has been keeping me so busy!

After a discussion with Jasmine, the lovely blogger behind Jasmine-Alexa, we have come up with the idea of creating a Blogger Bake Off. Each week, bloggers will be asked to create their own interpretation of the Showstopper challenge from The Great British Bake Off, posting photos and recipes on their blogs. Tweet the links to @BloggerBakeOff and they will be retweeted; through Twitter we are hoping to create a community of baking enthusiasts, and perhaps even start a #bakechat if there is enough interest! At the end of the Great British Bake Off we will compile a list of all entries on our blogs and open a poll to decide the best bake.

Sounds interesting, right? Read on to find out more!

So, what do you gain from being a part of the Blogger Bake Off?

• An opportunity to become a member of a collaborative community of baking bloggers, within which we can share ideas, inspiration and chat about our latest treats.
• The chance of winning a gift box full of Lakeland baking goodies (worth over £30!) if you win the best bake poll at the end of the competition. Unfortunately, only UK residents are eligible to win the goodie box, but we welcome entrants from all over the world – should you win, I’m sure we can arrange some kind of prize for you.
• An excuse to bake!

The Cake Diaries: Rhubarb & Custard Mini Sponges

The only rule is that all creations must be your own – no buying your Showstoppers and trying to pass them off as your own. All types of baking are welcome; traditional, vegan, healthy, gluten-free, and we are of course encouraging you to come up with your own twist on the classics! Little helpers are more than welcome to join in too. To join in, simply tweet your post link to @BloggerBakeOff and we’ll do the rest. Jasmine and I will be posting our own Showstoppers on our blogs, but don’t worry, neither of us will be eligible to win the grand prize.

Your post should include lots of photos, a write-up of your inspiration and the name of your Showstopper – recipes are preferred, but if you’re desperate to keep your family’s secret recipe to yourself then don’t worry, as long as you mention a couple of your ingredients or tips it’s fine!

Since we are already in the second week of the Great British Bake Off, this week’s Blogger challenge is a choice of two Showstoppers – you can choose to make your own interpretation of week one’s Showstopper Challenge of a Black Forest Gateau, week two’s Showstopper of a batch of biscuits nestled in a box made of a different type of biscuit, or if you’re feeling particularly adventurous you can attempt both! Entries for these Showstoppers must be in by September 2nd, and for the following Showstoppers left in the series, you have two weeks after broadcast to get your bakes blogged. Remember – the more Showstoppers you blog about, the better the chance you have of winning the grand prize.

So, for the first time…

On your marks, get set, BAKE!
