Poorboy is, without a doubt, my favourite vintage shop in Hull. I never fail to find something unique whenever I visit either of their boutiques, and when they have a sale on (like they do right now!), the bargains are incredible. If you aren’t in the Hull area, you can also buy from Poorboy online or just drool over their Instagram, as I often do.
I was lucky enough to find this amazing midi circle skirt during one of their 50% off sales, and it was love at first sight when I tried it on. I felt like a vintage princess! It fits like a dream, and it makes my waist look teeny-tiny, unless of course the waistband is folded over like it is in these photos… I’ll pay more attention to detail next time, I promise! I couldn’t bear to leave the shop without this skirt, and I only had to part with £12.50 to make it mine.
Like the majority of midi skirts out there, it’s a versatile garment. I’ve teamed it with a striped bardot top from H&M and gold sandals from ASOS in these photos, but you can create all sorts of looks with it. Sheer, lacy blouses look great with this skirt, as do crop tops and tie-waist shirts – there are so many different options!
With this skirt being vintage it would probably be quite difficult to find something like it on the high street, but you could always have a go at making a similar skirt if you’re desperate to recreate the look. Using this tutorial from JoJo and Eloise and the right fabric, you could easily whip one up in an afternoon. In fact I’m actually tempted to have a go at making one in a different colour myself, I’m thinking three different shades of purple would look stunning.
